With the assistance of Powers & Company, Inc. as consultants for developer Dranoff Properties, the recent rehabilitation of the RCA Victor Company, Camden Plant was listed on the National Register and received significant Federal Historic Preservation Tax Incentive credits for its conversion to upscale loft apartments. The RCA Victor Camden Plant remains the site of the most significant developments in phonograph, radio and television history; it originally occupied more than 58 acres and contained hundreds of buildings, of which only four remain standing.

RCA Victor Company, Camden Plant was home to two of the most significant twentieth century pioneers in communications: The Victor Talking Machine Company (created in 1901), who introduced musical entertainment in the home with its "talking machine" and the Radio Corporation of America (RCA) who pioneered telecommunications, radio and broadcasting. These two companies merged in 1929.

Building 17, where the phonograph cabinets were produced, is an important example of early 20th century industrial architecture and the work of the prominent firm of Ballinger and Perrot. Building 17 was constructed in a series of phases, beginning in 1909, with additions in 1911, 1912, 1915 and 1918 (the signature Tower).

In the spring of 2004, the rehabilitation of the Nipper Building received an award from the New Jersey State Historic Preservation Office.
